Simon will give a brief talk on how Help For Heroes has directly helped him and why every single penny raised is of the utmost importance to our service personnel injured in the line of duty. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Simon for giving his talk.

Good luck with the event and I hope you raise a substantial amount. This development to a 2 day event after the success of the London day is fantastic. Unfortunately both me and Julie are busy that weekend but role on the Midlands event.

Can't argue with that. The Rifles have had a hard tour over there and every penny, whether donated direct to any Regiment or to to H4H really does make a difference.

I have been simply overwhelmed by the support we have had, not just from people attending, but from businesses who have donated products or services for us to raffle or auction off - people like DPM Wallbank, Loxley Colour, Light Blue: Photo, GFSmith Photomount, Everybody Smile, Photomart, Crerar Hotels just to name a few.

It is going to be a cracking weekend!

Mark

Places are filling now and the support has been brilliant. This event is open to any standard of photographer, we don't care if you belong to any Association, Society or Institute. It is all about getting together to raise money for a brilliant charity, have some fun and the spin off will be positive promotion to photography.

If you are a beginner and wanting to test the water to see what Professional Photography is all about, this event may be what you need. A brilliant price and plenty of people who will be willing to help.

If you cannot come along, please feel free to tell others all about it.

Paul

I posted this on a well known Societies Forum. I hope it remains intact and generates extra interest.

If you are free the weekend of 20 & 21st March there is also a H4H Photography Seminar Weekend running in Yorkshire. Some valuable training with some excellent mentors all giving their time for this worthwhile charity.

Details http://www.markpearsonphotography.co.uk/h4h.php

Anything anyone can do for this charity is of benefit to our Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who are being seriously injured and maimed on a daily basis in Afghanistan.

Help For Heroes have just announced that £40 million has been raised since 2007 of which £34 million has already been given out in grants. Although this is a huge amount of money, it is still not even close to being enough and there will always be the need for more support. So if you are wanting to help make a difference to the lives of those who are injured not just physically but emotionally too, then please sign up and join in our fantastic weekend.

Any level of photographer welcome and the level of training is fantastic at a hard to beat cost. 100% of the profit is going to Help For Heroes and it promises to be a wonderful weekend. So follow the links above and make a difference.

Thanks all

Paul

Got your email Rob, booking form sent over. Be good to meet you :o)

This sounds fantastic. Is Scotland too far away to run one of these?

Hi Julie,

I sure there will be a lot of Scottish photographers who would love it if you were to arrange a weekend :) :)

Oh dear, what have I started. :)

I would definitely be up for it so if you think the distance is ok then let me know what you would need in terms of organising.

Hi Julie,

As raising funds for any charity is a personal thing, each person wanting to do it does so both in their own area and for their own charity.

In my case, I'm in Yorkshire and my charity is help For Heroes.

I've had a lot of people asking me if I could go arrange something similar in their area. I point out that I am not a professional fund raiser, just a photographer who wants to do some good.

If anyone wants a similar event in Scotland then it will need to be a Scottish photographer who does all the arranging etc as you guys up there know the area etc etc.

I can give you some tips on we have done here in Yorkshire to help you along if you need them :)

I am thinking of doing the 'Seeing the light' course on the first day, live pretty local so would be good.

Just wondering what level of photographer they are set for?

I have only been shooting 8 months and just upgraded to a D90.

Am hoping to get some good pics at mates weddings this year to accompany the wedding photographer and think this course will help in the short and long term.

Hi Dan,

The courses have been designed so that any level may attend. The whole ethos is to learn, regardless of ability or equipment levels. Everyone should take something away with them from the day, be it seeing the light, posing, lens selection etc.

Indeed, I was with one the trainers, Paul Haley, yesterday and he showed me a trick with an egg. A simple egg and I walked away shaking my head amazed how it's usage had driven home a point about light. I've asked him to bring an egg with him on the 20th to show others because it is such a simple tool that does actually work!

Just goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks

Is anyone going to be coming to this from the Liverpool direction who would be prepared to bring some dispay boards that I am buying for me? They will fit in the boot or on the back seat of a car easily - if not at least its a free bump if anyone has missed it!!

How many people from here are attending this? I think it would be a really good weekend, trying to see if I can get anyone to come with me to split hotel costs... (and travel costs too as I would have to travel from Scotland on that weekend).

If you can arrange for them to be delivered to my studio in Knowsley then I'd be happy to bring them over, although I won't be there until Saturday evening as I have a full day of shoots.
