Edit My Images
Yes
hi my mum uses a digital camera and wants to know how to download the images, add them to an email and store them , yes its simple enough BUT she is 100% anti iT.. so i need to make the whole thing as easy as poss.. any good 'free' Bits of software out there for a pc (xp) that would do the job ? it needs to help her ‘ import ‘ the photos and have button to ‘email the photo’ to someone too…

Most digital cameras come with their own bundled software to help you download to pc etc. If you have not got a cd with the camera try the manufacturers website for the missing software.

yup thats just it its the normal canon software and its a bit pants to use.. need something nice and simple any suggestions ?

I hope I don't sound like a total arse saying this but... if plugging camera in, navigating to "my computer", opening the removable disk icon and dragging the photos to "my pictures" is going to be too much then I'd really start to think about going back to film, as it doesn't get much simpler than that.

most "image download" programs are actually more complicated than the explorer route, and worse to work with than explorer and the image previewer.

nope im with you but i want a nice bit of software almost like iphoto for the pc..were they pop in the card and it all pops up picture based so they can see what they are doing,

The closest I can think of that gets near that would be Picasa (the download as opposed to the online service)

Tricky this one. If you automate too much and it doesn't work (or she wants to change something) she's stuck.

You could try something like FastStone viewer and a step-by-step guide.

File/download to download from card, select which picture she wants to email then click on the email icon - finish off in the email client.

You may need to do some tweaks on the FastStone settings.

Exactly... I work in tech support with some of the most uninterested people on the planet and so I can hand on heart say I've been through this 100 times.

But good luck in sorting it.

If you plug the camera in doesn't it come up with the standard list of options for removeable media? I thought one of those was import, or 'copy to My Pictures' etc.

Which OS is your mum using? which camera?

In Win7 connect the camera, the 'autoplay' will pop up with an option to import photos.
Once on the pc, using windows explorer view the photos by looking in the folders or in the Windows Photo Viewer and there is a button that says Email or right click the file in explorer select Send To the Email.

Simples.

Paul.

P.s I feel your pain, my dad is 72 and I'm his tech support for everything!
