also it looks better on my laptop which is what's been happening before :bang:

The noise reduction and sharpening look fine, though looking at the large version on Flickr there are some barely-noticeable JPEG artefacts, possibly created by Flickr's upload and resize algorithm. However, the main thing I notice is that the photo looks a little underexposed to me.

If it looks different on your laptop, you might want to check that CS5 is outputting JPEGs using the sRGB colour space, and that whatever you're using on your laptop expects to see sRGB. I can't tell you where to check this as I use Lightroom and Elements 10.

It's a nice picture, by the way, and I feel that I ought to recognise this bird...

The colour space of the above image is in Adobe RGB and not srgb which is why it is looking different on your laptop or any other none colour managed application.

This is why it is looking duller and less vibrant on the web than in your image editor.

Hi i have looked at my settings in cs5 in the edit, colour settings box, and it is on srgb 1ec61966-21 is that right if not how do i change it, thanks for your help

Hi Blackwolf, it's saying it's on sRGB so that sould be ok. I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of doing a levels adjustment to your image also a slight sharpen to the bird and tried to remove to artifacts that are showing below the tail. If you say I will remove it.

It's not when you edit it that it matters, but when you save it. The image on Flickr has an "Uncalibrated" colour space. Try the "Save As" option. What does it specify the colour space then?

It is DEFINITELY rendering differently in non-colour managed browsers. I use Chrome (not colour managed - i.e. doesn't do any colour space calcs) and it is dull. In IE9 (which is colour managed) it is slightly brighter and more saturated.

It's not ok as the embedded profile is Adobe RGB (1998) and not srgb.

Somewhere between Cs5 and resizing for the web the colour space is being changed.

Sorry not fully understanding this, where is the Save As option in Flickr

Not in flickr but in CS5. You save it as something before exporting to Flickr. If you have a method of exporting files to flickr through Bridge, I'd look at how that converted and uploaded the files.

The problem is DEFINITELY you are uploading the wrong colour space files to flickr. They need to be sRGB.

that looks a lot better garry thank you

Converted it to SRGB then I removed the twig from the left corner with the patch tool and then used a curves adjustment layer on the bird to lighten it up a little also a little tweak to the saturation (may have overdone this).
I then finished with a little bit of selective sharpening.
