Yes
Hi - i need advice. I just bought this lens from Jessops - you wont believe that i paid £310.00 for it. i purchased it literally 3hours ago at 17:30.
I remember the salesperson said they did not refund lenses but they had a 30 day returns policy (unused and in original packaging). Should it not be the case that if i take this lens back first thing in the morning i should be able to exercise my statutory right to a refund withing 14 days? (UK law)?
I've used the lens to take about half a dozen snaps indoors. The reason why i'm asking is i want my money back so i can get the lens from Kerso for less that £200.00

please if anyone can give me a response before 0900 Sunday 29th - or email me directly on jaleel1@ntlworld.com
Thanks

One question..

Why did you purchase from Jessops then 3 hours later find it cheaper via kerso..

Always trawl the internet before spending your hard earned.

As for your question, I wouldnt go through the hassle for the little saving you "might" make..;)

BTW: Welcome to the forums.

Nope, UK Law doesnt give you a right to return it if you simply change your mind (Distance selling regulations aside of course).

Some retailers do allow it (Argos for example, within 16 days). Jessops *may* (Dont think it's a nationally advertised policy).

You can try and go back in the morning and plead to the managers better nature of course.

Canon 50mm f1.4 usm.

The 'little' saving is about £110 which might not necessarily get me another lens but its still a hundred and ten bucks. But i appreciate your comments none-the-less.

You should be able to give it straight back if you are nice to them and the kit is in perfect as bought condition.

Just explain that you were a complete numpty and perhaps say that you had bought it for someone else, but they dont actually want/need it. Kindofa greyish lie, but might help

Or just tell them the truth:shrug: If you feel that yours is a valid reason to return the item it shouldn't be a problem and you will have a clear conscience.

You should not have a problem.

Half a dozen shots, it's now used, if they sold it as new they could be breaking the law and I would be upset if I purchased a new lens only to find out it had been used, it's a bit different to trying the lens in the shop as you can usually negotiate a price on a display item, thats why you get a lot of stuff sold cheaper on the net as "open box" because it is no longer technically new. I think basically it's something to put down to experience and next time do your homework first.

When you tell them you want to return it because you found it cheaper on the net remember to duck. :D

I agree with Chrisiow on this one, put it down to experience.

What Jessops do with it when they take it back is up to them and not his concern.
"the salesperson said they did not refund lenses" is rollocks, if he has a genuine concern that he was ripped off he has the right to ask for a refund, if the shop refuses he can contact trading standards.

This chap has no legal right to a refund as the product is fit for purpose and in good working order...There is no 14day mandate.
He is totally reliant on Jesspos returns policy.
My understanding is that they will refund the lens as they have their 30day money back guarantee.

I guess the wider lesson to learn is that Jessops are about the MOST expensive place to buy camera gear from.... hence why they are having so many financial problems...

You should have known what rip off's Jessops are. They charge so much more on all the stuff they stock.

I bought a Canon 24-70 2.8L lens a few years back from Jessops and returned it the next day.........got a refund without any problem.

As a noob & knowing no better, I bought my 5D & lens from Jessops last year.
I took them back just short of the 30 day return policy expiring and got a full refund.
Sure they werent happy ... but there were no problems.

If you find idt for £50 cheaper somewhere else after buying from Kerso, do you think he will refund you.

I bought my 5D from Jessops in January this year - a bit like Glo - without checking on line first. It was the guys on here that suggested I take it back and get a refund. I hummed and harred and then decided to keep it and learn a lesson from it. I could have got about £300 back! I weighed up all of the assistance Jessops have given me over the years (until I joined TP) and thought Nah! I probably never be able to walk back in the shop again. They all know me there in Shrewsbury and only a few weeks ago replaced a studio head that I had well out of warranty -FREE!.

In future, I will look to Kerso for my 70-200mm 2.8 IS Lens and just keep the High Street shopping for emergencies.

If they don't want to refund, I'd scour the internet for somewhere stocking the lens at a lower price and then ask them to price match :)

I did that with an ef-s 60, they happily refunded the 85gbp difference.

Aha! DF, I think you will find they have stopped doing that about 2 months ago. The manager in Shrewsbury who has always accepted my reams of printed price comparisions off the net, explained that due to revised management systems, they could no longer price match.

really......it was still advertised on the shop window of the chester branch yesterday

I think they are only matching prices that are printed in magazines now and not internet prices.

My son bought a new 70mm-200mm f4.0 non IS from Jessops recently. He used it and even took it on holiday to Crete. After at least three weeks he realized the benefit of IS (He compared it with mine) and he returned it to Jessops who gave him a full refund.

I saw a lens in jessops, which I want in the near future. It was really expensive. The sales person came up and usual questions. I told them I was interested in the lens, but would only get it if the price was right. They agreed to lower their price through in a free£40ish filter, I would have got a better price than anyother non-grey import shop. Shame I didn't have money on me, but they were certainly keen to sell me then lens at a good price with a bit of bartering. I actualy felt guilty walking out not purchasing it. From memory the lens (24-70 2.8L) was on show for about 849, they were gonna sell it to me for 749 or 779 with a free hoya filter.

Get over it you mad a mistake put it dawn to experience, and next time do your home work first

I think I will stop buying lenses, and just "borrow" them from Jessops in the future! ;)
will save me a fortune :)

My local jessops is pretty good, and always do some good deals for me. The only reason im currently using them for my upgrade is because im getting it all on finance. They price matched an item from W.E, from a print out i made. And they also reduced the prices on two items far below the prices on W.E :)

Now i just have to wait for a letter from my finance company :D

Just snap something on it and say it was faulty.
Joking of course.
Just out of interest, i was told manufacturers give priority to UK sold gear, as opposed to imported (as most internet stuff is) when it comes to warranty issues.
Dean:)

Take it back and argue. It's good practice if nothing else. If they say no, you haven't lost out.

My personal opinion is they didn't force you to buy it, why should you force them to refund. Yes, you could have had it cheaper elsewhere but that's not their fault.

The sooner it's taken back (If that is what you are going to do), the better as it adds credibility to whatever 'story' you give them.

If its taken back after many days / weeks, they can be a lot less amenable to your requests as they will be thinking you only bought it to 'hire' it.

Argos changed there returns policy on digital cameras because of this. People would buy them, use them for a family do / wedding, then return them (Sometimes forgetting to erase the pictures / reset the setting etc)

As regards whether this lens is classed as used. When I was thinking of buying a 100-400 L IS, I went to Jessops to ask about this lens. They let me try out a new one on my camera just outside the shop. I bought the lens cheaper from another dealer. I don't think they would have sold that lens as used.
