i know i havent been here in ages, internet is working at uni now.

uno problemo;
just gone to charge my camera battery and my focus has broken, i think its the lens and i cant seem to fix it myself. i dont have time to have it mended as im off to paris tonight and i need to take it with me...
the auto focus is working but i have no idea what to do with it..

anyone know how to make the best out of this situation? :(

no, how do you do that?

Sorry a little confused. you say the focus is broken, then say auto focus is working.

What is the problem exactly?

dammit sorry, manual focus IS working, auto focus ISN'T working.

people use a eraser to clean the contacts. I have just used a dry cloth. make sure the switch is engaging properly.

nikon and yes i have, ive tried all of the settings etc. dont know what to do :(

how/what do i clean?

I'd just arrived from Paris funnily enough when it broke.

I thought it might have been the change in temp or pressure from the plane or something like that. Has anything like that happened recently?

I'd try cleaning the contacts, the metal bits around the connection end of the lens when its detached, and the same bits on the edge of the body too.

Thos bumpy things there and the corresponding contacts on the body, plus that is the switch at the bottom that will turn off autofocus if put on 'M'

no its been used since i got back from holiday.

does yours sound like a broken cassette tape in a player? they horrible squeaking sound?

ive just cleaned them and theyre not working..

also to the fellow that put the picture up, i know where the switch it, its not working.

ok just trying to help, good luck with getting your lens fixed

I would say that the gears within the lens are either misaligned or you have a foreign body in the lens mechanism itself. No quick fix there, needs to be sent off I would have thought.

Sorry.

:( ok so it cant be fixed quickly, any tips on using manual focus? whats the best option to have it on when shooting kids?

Mine just hunted continually, there wasnt any weird noises.

Will prob work out cheaper to buy a new lens than repair it. Ring up get a quote before you go for repair, and check out duty free on the way to Paris.

Mine was gonna be only £40 cheaper to repair than a new one, thankfully I didnt need to buy.

Good luck with it!

Manual focus is easy enough. In the bottom left of the viewfinder you will see a small yellow dot. When you have correct focus, this dot will be solid, when out of focus, it will flash.
I would use a single focus point with Matrix metering to start till you get used to it.
So, put the camera on MF, look through the view finder, put the focus point on your subject and turn the focus ring till the dot is solid, press the shutter.
Et Voila! Bobs your uncle, perfect focus.

the dot goes solid but its no where near in focus..

i think i may have fixed it, the front lens was jammed! hooray:) thanks guys
