My bowens light is driving me insane! I have sent an email to bowens this morning about it!

I have a bowens Gemini 200 purchased at the Focus show earlier this year so it's not that old.

I switch the beep off when I'm working but occasionally it's started to make this long beep & doesn't fire. It happens a fair bit during a shoot but I don't understand why?

Has anyone had this happen?

Yes, similar anyway. Is the overheat protection kicking in? What modifiers are you using? And are you firing a lot in a short space of time?

See what Bowens have to say, but my guess is also that it's the overheat protection, this happens with flash heads that don't have fan cooling. Switching off the modelling lamp, avoiding modifiers (such as honeycombs) that cause heat build up, and allowing time between shots, helps.

Hi there, thanks for replies.

I shoot newborns so shoot is between 2 & 4 hours but I wouldn't say I shoot loads.

It's not long started doing it & bowens haven't replied as yet

The long beep is a misfire warning. They tend to happen on the newer Bowens heads like yours, when shooting on lower powers when the unit gets a little warm. Turning the power up can help (curiously).

Is the head mostly pointing down? Most heat comes from the modelling lamp and without a cooling fan it soaks up from the front even when the flash isn't working hard. Enclosed softbox etc makes it worse. Just have to turn it off.

No it's not pointing down but it's on low power with a softbox

What did Bowens say about it?
