I am off to the Autosport show at the NEC tomorrow and would like some advice - http://www.autosport-international.com/autosport/show_home1.asp

I am taking my 24-105 for general shots and the 70-200 for catching those lovely girls if stuck behide a crowd ;)

I assume the NEC is quite well lit but will still be best to use flash?
If I use flash, 550EX, should I set it to auto or manual and if manual what sort of power level.

I have heard that Canon flash underexposes. Is there anyway to up the exposure?

What sort of ISO setting?

Cheers and sorry for the numpty question. I am probably too late to ask
PS Using 30D

BTW If I had given this more time would you have suggested a faster lens and if so what? (I think I know the answer and would probable not involve using flash either;) )

is the 70-200 also f/4 or the f/2.8?

The NEC CAN be well lit but very much depends on what's on!

You'll need to assess conditions on arrival but I'd personally go with the manual setting if you need the flash (which i suspect you will ;))

Your kit sounds just perfect for the job.

Stick the flash on the camera whether you need it or not and the lens hoods too. If you look like a pro snapper then all the promotion girls will pose nicely for you and if you're really lucky, people might even move out of your way sometimes too.

Unless you're happy using manual flash quickly then sticking it on auto will probably get the highest hit rate. Also, getting the ISO up as far as you dare will be helpful keeping up the shutter speeds.

Most importantly, unless you've taken on a contract to supply images don't forget to come out from behind the camera sometimes and enjoy the day. ;)

One other word of advice !

Be very careful when leaving the NEC with expensive camera Kit, Arkady has a friend that was mugged for his 5D and kit, while leaving the NEC a couple of months ago !

Cheers for the help

Will try to remeber to surface from behind the camera :)

Good advice Ian, cheers. Will be with 3 other lads and camera will be bagged

I would recommend a wide angle lens for this event, I took my 50mm to a custom car show a while ago and couldnt get cars in full frame, Stand back for 10 seconds and some geezer comes and stands in front of you.:(

I popped my 16-35L on the camera and you can almost stand next to the cars and get them in.. The wider the better..;)

The Autosport show is mainly about aftermarket parts and racing. I would think 24mm should be wide enough

Great photo

My shots from last year, I used my 17-55 pretty much all the time and I didn't need a flash. As has been said above you need to stand close or people will come and stand in front of you.
