Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting on this site. My question is a simple one, I need help and advice buying a camera. The criteria I have are;
  • I can only afford secondhand - budget £200 max! (I know some of you spend more on your bags than that, let alone lenses!!!)
  • I'd like the best quality make I can afford at that price
  • Body and lens
  • Durable
  • Any reliable and reputable online dealers you could recommend please
  • That's it!
I am interested in photographing anything. A few of my influences are; Bert hardy, Garry Winogrand, William Eggleston, William Gedney, Robert Frank, Raymond Moore, Paul Strand, Margaret Bourke -White, The Bechers, Jeff Wall, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Edward Weston, Cindy Sherman, Robert Capa, Thomas Struth, Wolfgang Tilmans, Wim Wenders, Helmut Newton etc...

I hope someone can help...

Thanks, Wills

Welcome to the forum. Others may have a better suggestion but you could probably get a D3100 and a 50mm for under £200, I've had good experience with mpb.com - If you can though I would recommend saving just a bit more and maybe picking up an XT-1 and a suitable lens.

It would be worth sticking around for a while, the Classifieds may have a bargain now and then.

Hi Joe, Thanks for your welcome. Forgive my ignorance, what brand name is a D1300 please? I really am a bit lost with all the tech names etc.
Thanks for the advice, I take it the classifieds are part of this site, that sounds handy. I'm really, really looking forward to learning from people. I love your photo by the way!

Cheers Wills

Welcome to TP and with that budget I wish you all the luck in the world fella :)

Welcome to TP, I started with the Nikon D3200 and the kit lens and it was a great camera, with an easy to understand menu system (having then switched to Olympus, I now recognise how valuable that was!!)

Hi and welcome, all the very best of luck with your quest :welcome:
