Hi, looking for any advice on a problem with my canon 400D. Last night, the AF stopped working in all the non auto settings, ie, AP,M etc. The camera does try to lock focus but can't. It will still focus manually though. However, AF does work on the auto settings but I don't use them. I thought it may be the sigma 10-20 lens I was using at the time but tried with my other 3 lens but the problem remained.
I've changed the battery, sensor looks clean, checked that the lens were set to AF etc. It was working fine one minute then suddenly stopped !
The camera was bought new in Jessops Dec 07.
Anyone had a similar problem or can suggest what could be wrong?
Cheers

Try cleaning the lens/camera connections (light rub with a soft cloth). From what you have said it is likely it's a camera problem as opposed to a lens problem. As it's still under warranty I wouldn't mess with it to much, take it back to Jessops to be fixed.

Does it make any difference what aperture you have the camera set to in the manual modes?

I'm no expert, but I would assume if the camera's autofocus works on the auto picture modes settings then autofocus system is working ok, I would guess theres a simple setting that is stopping it work in the manual modes. Have you maybe selected an AF point thats over a flat surface?

Ok I win muppet of the year. Just realised it AF was set to Al Servo, duh! Panic over!
Thanks so much for posting so quickly and I'm sorry for wasting folks time.
Cheers
