I just brought my daughter a Nikon d3100 from argos for her birthday (a couple of days ago). I took out insurance so I think i'm exempt from the 30 days.

Anyway she has a form of muscular dystrophy so she can find pressing buttons down at times hard so I brought her the nikon remote which was advertised in the same section but after some more research I realise that you can't use a wireless remote on it! Unfortunately I have opened it to set it up for her.

Can I return it or ask for a swap for another model? Will my insurance cover returns or just for it to be swapped for the same model?

Any advice much appreciated!

I don't mean to come across as being unhelpful but surely you should ask Argos whether they will return/exchange it or not. What you're asking isn't really a photography related question.

I'd imagine a company like Argos will be as helpful as possible as long as you speak to the right person in the right way.

I'd imagine they'd take it back if all the original packaging was present

Argos are usually ok with this kind of thing

Hi Belinda
From http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/ReturnsAndRefunds.htm so it would appear no problem to return the product

If I change my mind...

We're sorry but some items like earrings, foot spas and dental products can't be exchanged or refunded for hygiene and safety reasons, unless they're faulty.
To protect your personal security, we are also unable to accept returns on some non-faulty imaging and recording products such as MP3 players and digital cameras.
Please note all video games consoles are excluded from the Argos 30 day money back guarantee. Please ensure you read the specification on the box before installation. We also cannot accept back video gaming software under our 30 day money back guarantee if the plastic wrapping has been unsealed – this does not affect your statutory rights.
If a product is excluded from our 30-day money-back guarantee, it is clearly marked by a † next to the product name in the catalogue and on this website.
If your product(s) have qualified for a free Argos voucher/Argos giftcard and you return them under our 30-day-money-back-guarantee, the free Argos voucher/Argos gift card must be returned. If the qualifying products aren’t returned than the Argos voucher/Argos Giftcard amount will be deducted from the money refunded.
Our 30-day money-back guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.
