HELP - a really basic question in PSE

This may make me sound really stupid but I am prepared to go with that :)

When in PSE in order to use clone stamp, lasso, crop etc, I click on the buttons on left hand side. I can switch between buttons but then I don't seem able to switch them off. Can I do that and if so how?
 
If its like CS5 I always select the hand tool when I have finished with one of the others
 
I have PE10 & it turns off as soon as you choose another option & like troutfisher the hand tool does it or any tool down that menu.
 
I use the move tool but it's the same difference, you just come off the clone and choose the hand or the move tool.
 
Get into keyboard shortcuts for tools and other ops. Tap - done.
