hi im just getting into photography pp and need to get some advice

i run mac os and have aperture installed ive downloaded a trial of cs5 and it seems more powerful

its very expensive though will elements 10 give me enough tools

or do i need to fork out for full cs5

mainly want it for sharpening etc and ive found the smart tool usefull for removing the dogs lead etc

i have elements 9 and it does all i need,
bear in mind it is just a slimmed down photoshop, it is still a powerfull editing software, it will do all your sharpening, cloning etc.....and also has layer masks, and for the price it is a bit of a bargain, the main thing is make sure you get your head around what all the tools do

It's hard to say for sure as we don't know exactly what you'll be doing, but elements will do a lot of things the full version does, if in a different way.

I have Elements 10 and find it does all I want. Elements is quoted as having 90% of the full Photoshop for 10% of the price. I would suggest you buy Elements first and if you find you are missing something then upgrade.

If you are primarily a photographer who wants to tidy up their photos - clone, crop, sharpen, merge etc then Elements will be fine

If you are primarily an editor who will spend hours creating or changing a picture then you might find Elements a little restricting and find Photoshop more suited to your needs.

I should think there are very few people who actually need Photoshop and a fraction of those, if any, who actually use the whole programme to it's full potential.

I'd stick with Elements for the time being at least. I find that whole I can use it pretty well, trying to use full blown Photoshop is completely different ball game. I found that it has a massive learing curve, and it takes ages to get to know.
I agree that there are some features that are handy in CS6, but I'm not sure they are worth the extra outlay.

thanks guys ill get a copy of elements all i want is to clean up photos crop remove blemishes etc etc
and remove unwanted bits ie someones head right in the middle of my landscape :)

elements will do that sort of stuff wont it ?

you could always try GIMP its free and would do what your looking for it has the same type of tools as photoshop and there are plenty of tutorials on the web for it thats the software i started with before buying cs5
