Yes
Why is it that every time the 100-400 goes onto my 5D I end up with dust on the sensor?
No problems with other zooms, is it the push/pull acting like a pump?
Jim

In a word Jim, Yes.

It's a known problem I'm afraid.

100-400 L the good old dust pump.

Just looked at my new 24-105L, there is a rubber dust ring to stop the problem, says in the manual it can be replaced when worn.
Mega Peeved or what, is there a known solution for the 100-400?
Jim

If you google for 5D dust you'll find that some people think the 5D is a dust magnet. I can't honestly say I've ever had a problem with the 100-400 and it gets used a lot, including dusty environments. Maybe I've just been lucky

I dont think you have been lucky Dod, I too have never had the issue either. I have also used my 100-400 in various dusty environments too.

Is the rubber dust ring you refer to not the gasket for the weather sealing near the thread of the lens where it connects to the camera body?

Some people seem to have more problems with the 100-400 than others with dust. I've not had any problems with mine on a 5D. I wonder if it's a technique or house keeping problem or just plain old bad luck

I had mine for over a year and I found it to be a big problem.
from the day I got it I had to start cleaning my sensor but never had to clean it before I got it. I used it for airshows so I was pumping it like mad and I think the problem is dust in the camera being blasted around rather than the lens sucking it in, if you zoom slowly I don't think you will have a problem.

I never had this problem after I sold it:thumbs:
