Does your 580EX II rattle?
When I put my 580 EXII stright up 90 degrees, then shake it, I can hear a rattle from inside. It comes from the top part (flash) and the bottom part where the autofocus assist beam is.

Is your flash like this too?

Cheers

Edit:
I forgot to say the sound is louder at the bottom bit and it sounds like theres a loose part.

Should have posted this on 1st April :)

Just got this mental image of people shaking flash guns everywhere.

My 580EX has a hint of a rattle to it but does not really sound like anything is loose.

The thing though is that I went to John Lewis and Jessops to try their 580EX II and 430 EX and they dont rattle.

Could it be the Wide angle diffuser??

No its not the wide angle diffuser. I tried to pull it out and hold it. My real concern really is that most of the rattle comes from the bottom part which is just at the back of the AF illuminator. Im also sure by the sound that its not coming from the battery compartment either.

Mine rattles, I hardly think it's a worrying sound though.

Just spoke to Canon this morning, I was told the flash shouldn't rattle. And I was advised to send it to them for repair:'(.

I'll be sending the flash maybe tomorrow and when it comes back, I'll let you all know!

Got my flash back from Fixation last Tuesday. It still has the same rattle as before. I was told that they disassembled and checked the parts inside and reassembled it, and found nothing loose! They said they also checked other flashes and the rattle was normal!

I called them back saying Canon told me it shouldn't rattle and I also checked Jessops and John Lewis' 580EX II's which don't rattle. They said I can return it back to them for a second look by another technician!

Yesterday I called Canon again, and I was told that the rattle is normal. Different people say different things.
Anyway the flash works fine.

Next time I'll buy Nikon!
