Hello

Hello everyone!

I have recently joined this forum and just wanted to say hello. I like photography as a hobby but not doing as much as I would like so I thought by joining this forum it will give me the motivation to get out and shoot more. There's a wealth of information here and want to thank you all for your contributions. They're much appreciated.

I wouldn't necessarily say I am a complete novice as I have a good understanding (I think) of the exposure triangle (Aperture/Shutter speed/ISO) but theory is one thing and putting it all into practice a complete different thing. I'm not focusing on just one particular type of photography (landscape, portraits, macro etc) as I am at the stage where I would like to explore more to find out what sparks my interest. I am a casual photographer taking the odd family portrait and pictures whilst on holiday but I am now planning to make outings specifically dedicated to photography. No doubt I will improve as with every shot you take you learn something.

Gear wise, I use a complete dinosaur of a camera (Nikon D700) but it's a good dinosaur . I have just made the move to Full Frame from an APS-C sensor (Nikon D80) so I'm in the process of getting used to my new tool.

Looking forward to participate and share the little I know with the rest of the members.

Welcome Dan. Best way to develop is to keep practising, and you can share here either just for pleasure or ask for constructive critique. Please join in as much as you are able - maybe participate in the DPOTY challenge, with monthly themes to focus your outings? It's not a competition, so there's nothing to lose, and you can join in any time of the year.

As for your choice of gear, well, I wouldn't worry about that. The D700 is still very capable of capturing great images. Look at me; I use the most unloved and dismissed camera in the world. Not a problem. I will force it to obey my command.

You are very welcome! Don't worry about posting replies a day or two late. Please do whatever you can at your convenience and not an hour earlier. We are all in this together, which is to say that we need to move at a leisurely, human pace to maximize the fun.

As for gear, well, you really shouldn't worry too much about the hardware. The software running your brain is far more important. Speaking of software, I think I need an upgrade soon. LOL.
