Hi

debated for ages to buy a DSLR and recently purchased a canon 600d.
the kit came with a 18-55mm lens then i purchased a 50mm lens as well.

mainly going to use it for motorsports, car shows and a bit of landscape.

here's a link to my tumblr account where ive posted a few of my shots and see what you link. Tumblr - LW Productions

Cheers

hi edd, welcome to the forum!

I'm pretty new myself but just want to drop in and say hi :P

you have some pretty good pictures there but i can't really give you any comment as i've never tried Motorsport photography. What i can tell you is that focus on improving your composition since they are usually the main thing to decide a well captured photo and a bad one, also, the GTR picture you need to be careful not to clip any important part of the picture and in this case, the bottom of the handle was clip and this gives me a feeling of unsettling.

can't wait to see more of your work and again, welcome!

cheers

cheers for the advice mate, what do you mean by "composition"?

in the GTR picture i was using a 50mm prime lens and found i had to step back pretty far to get everything in shot.

composition is about rule of thirds, leading lines, patterns and symmetry, background, fill the frame etc.

its always good to follow these guidelines when you just started photography  (you can read all the informations on online but i still recommend you get something like a field guide so you can keep it with you at all time and read it on the bus or something :)

since you are using a crop sensor camera, your 50mm isn't really a 50mm. Canon crop sensor camera has a 1.6x crop factor so you have to times that by the lens focal length. So the 50mm prime is behaving more like a 80mm rather than 50mm since its been crop by your sensor.

again you should search some sites/blog with articles like these.

If you want i can inbox you some really useful photography website that i use myself and if you have a current gen smartphone, use apps like flipboard/pulse to read things about photography since they are very nice categorised.

I'm also a beginner myself so what i can tell you is that take a lot of pictures(not of the same thing, try to be different each time you take a picture of the same object) will improve your skills and get the hand of your own equipment which is really important, nothing beats practice.
cheers.
