Hi Everyone

My name is Sharon, love photography but not a professional. Wanted to join the site so I have contact with others as I still have much to learn.

I love portrait photography, landscape, seascape and would love to get into wildlife photography.

I am interested what you all think about the fact that i want to buy a canon lens that would cover both portrait and wildlife. I looked at the canon 100-400mm but i also looked at the 70-200 f2.8 thought i could use this for portrait and then buy extenders to give me the 400mm

What do you all think???

Look forward to hearing from you all Sharon

Hi Sharon and welcome to TP.

You will get a much better response rate
If you post you're question in the equipment section.

Me personally and assuming that you are referring to the non IS version of the 70-200 would opt for buying the 100-400 and then buying a more specific portrait lens at a later date or opting for the 50mm f1.8 which although the cheapest lens Canon make and a delicate plastic build quality can produce some stunning results.

The reason being that if you're shooting wildlife you are probably going to be near the 400mm most of the time and the IS would be beneficial to you. Of course you could use the 100mm end for portraits but will need a fair amount of space.

I've seen good results using the 70-200mm f2.8 IS but now you're talking a lot more money than a 100-400 especially when factoring the cost of a 2 x TC.

Again welcome to the forums and look forward to seein some pics soon :)

Hi Roly

Thank you so much for your advice and I will post there.

Totally agree with you and I do have the 50m lens, I am getting into wedding photography too so I thought maybe the 70-200mm would be more suitable.

Agree with the costs too but thought maybe it more justifiable if I could use the lens with or without the extenders for 2 different topics.

Great meeting you and chatting with you stay in touch

Sharon
