Hi, joined this forum for as someone who has always wanted to be an amateur photographer but has not had the means to get started up until now. I'm looking for advice on how to get started i.e. what kind of equipment would be good for someone who has not used a DSLR before. I love taking photos of small insects but have only used my phone and digital compacts before. I've had some good results but would like to try getting some better images. Any directions on useful threads, sites or even your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Treehugger81

welcome to TP

Taking images of Insects etc is refered to as MACRO- I myself love to do this type of photography-( check my Flickr account link) most DSLR's will do the job- its the lens thats of equal importance- no good having a £1000 camera and a £30 lens

My advice is buy the best DSLR you can afford and spend as much on lenes

Im sure the experts in here will be only too happy to advise you

A used Canon 10D with lens off ebay and a set of extention tubes then tripod. With luck you may get the lot for £200 ...... but you have to wait for the right moment :)
