Been using a compact for a good few years now; got some quite nice photos from it, but never really done much with it. A combination of wanting to take nice photos, being surrounded by people who make sense out of conversations akin to "The Wallet-Buster 2000 gives the best field of whatsit I've seen since the Bank Weeper 150" "Ah, but you're forgetting the mag is infinitely smaller than the Wrist Cruncher 10000000000" and realisation that I'm probably not going to be in such a good position to start an expensive hobby quite soon in the future have made me decide to take the plunge into real photography, as said wallet busting friends and family call it.

Before we get anywhere near that stage, however, expect to see me asking very stupid and ridiculous questions that will annoy the heck out of you - only been here five minutes and already seen about twenty words that are completely alien to me, can only imagine how much that's going to multiply when I start reading the books to make sure I really want this, then probably best shelter in a nuclear bunker if and when I get the camera and start with the manual...

If you named cameras I would have gotten into photography far earlier! :L
