Hi All,

I'm Andy from Essex. I've been reading other peoples posts for a little while now, so thought I'd better introduce myself!

I have been looking to make the jump to a DSLR for a while now but finances were never permitting. I recently borrowed a good friend's Canon 400D setup for a weekend break and loved it. Looking to get my own camera now so going to stick with Canon I think - 450D is favourite at the mo with my budget (£300-350 second hand). Any buying advice would be more than welcome though - especially around lenses.

I'm keeping a close eye on the classifieds, so when something comes up I will be ready to jump into the wonderful world of photography!

Hi Andy and welcome to TP.
Cannot help on Canon lenses. I am a Nikon type.
Best to say what type of photography interests you. Landscape/wildlife etc.
Try a few cameras in a shop to see what feels good to you.

As with Dougie, I too am a Nikon user. However, two general advice I'd give ...

1) if you're a none-smoker make sure when you buy 2nd-hand that it comes from a smoke-free home otherwise the kit may smell of cigarettes :shrug:

2) buy something that your friends and buddies have (in your case I'd strongly suggest you go with Canon), this way you can get more brand-specific help from him / her plus the possibility to use some of his / her kit to try out.
