hello to everyone

I am a newbie to photography and have just got a canon 450d. I have joined to gain knowledge and learn.
Looking forward to meeting people who like to help newbies and give advice.

So first question,
I am on a budget and would like to buy a 300mm lens and a lens to get extremely close to subjects, any advice please?

thank you

Hi and welcome to TP, what will you be shooting and where? also how much is your budget?

 Hi and welcome to TP

When you say a 300mm lens and a lens that gets close to things, do you mean a 300mm Macro or are you looking for two lenses?

Hi  and :welcome: to TP.

Hello mate

for canon the options for 300 primes are the sigma f/2.8 (around £1200 2nd hand) the canon f/2.8 (about £2500-3000 2nd hand) the canon 300 f/4 ( about £700-800 2nd hand) or something like the 100-400 f/4 a very popular lens for wildlife, there are a few sigma zooms all upto 300-400mm range

Andy (above) is spot on about the available 300mm primes.

But I suspect that as you say you are "a newbie to photography and have just got a canon 450d" that just maybe something a little less expensive may be better to start with?

Have a look at some of the Canon 70-300 lenses to start with. They've done a few over the years and the latest has image stabilisation (IS) and so on (about £400 new).
And I'm pretty sure Sigma, Tamron and so on will make similar lenses too.

Oh... and welcome to TP.

cheers
