...from a newbie. Just started a evening class in photography at my local college. Really just interested as a hobby, with no aspirations of doing it professionally.

I am about buy my first SLR, and it would appear to be the biggest decision I will have to face in my whole life....canon, nikon, sony - help !!!

Welcome to TP.

My suggestions go to a camera shop and ask to have a feel of all manufacturers cameras in your price range.

The most important thing when you are starting out is that the camera feels comfortable in your hand, and that the controls you wish to use are to hand (well finger really).

Every brand has their advocate, but the bottom line is if you don't feel comfortable using your camera, you won't take it out and use it.
