Yes
as title this idiot needs help, having learnt the basics of elements 5 i thought i'd be clever and try shooting in raw.
finding that elements cant open the pictures i thought where is software to processs it as adobe website states nikon d80 is supported ,so where is software needed to open raw ?
i did install picture project 1.7 as supplied with camera and can open veiw and process photos in there but not in elements 5 . get a message unable to open as wrong file or something like that so it would seem that raw needed to open photos isnt there ,what am i doing wrong ?
being impotent oops i meant incompetent on computers dont help matters much:embarrassed: so any answers whilst welcome must be in english thanks for your help.

You may need to update camera raw to support the D80.

You can donwload the latest version 4.1 from the Adobe website.

thanks for quick reply i've updated raw and still cant open photos as elements 5 still says wrong file

has the updated 4.1 gone into your elements 5 program ? ie did you follow the instruction to the letter given in the adobe website, as it's not just a matter of uploading camera RAW 4.1, if your not sure what i'm talking about let me know and i will post the instructions on here

tel48 - please do post instructions - I have downloaded 4.1 and can't seem to get it to open - I am a pc idiot, so please speak slowly and clearly..
Many thanks !
If you do reply, and don't hear from me for a few days, it is due to me going away for a week, but i will respond asap...
Cheers
Steve - pc plonker, with a new copy of elements 5 he can't use properly..

PS Meant to add - I downloaded it as there is a sharpening feature that sounds good - I can open RAW files..

After downloading Camera Raw 4.1 Update follow these instructions to the letter ...

To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0:

1. Exit Photoshop Elements
2. Open My Computer
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:)
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)

Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats

5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.

6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4.

7. Launch Photoshop Elements.

HTH ... :D

:p

Oh Mighty green one..
Thanks for that, but I have done so, and now it seems to be there, but I was under the impression that there was a new sharpening tool that came as part of 4.1 - one that allowed you to sharpen the objects in focus, and mask the areas out of focus - so far, I can't see it - maybe I got conned again (I saw the tip over on the 'Digital camera Magazine' forum, in the 'How To:Editing room, under a thread entitled 'Photoshop Elements 5 RAW update 4.1 - link, if it works here - http://community.dcmag.co.uk/forums/492803/ShowThread.aspx#492803

Any more ideas ?

All the 4.1 update does, I believe Steve, is ensure the latest cameras are added into the E5 piggy bank so their RAW format is recognised ...

The sort of update you comment on would be an upgrade to E5 itself rather than RAW files ...

:p

Well, that'll teach me to look on other forums...
Anyway, many thanks for the clear instructions..!
Cheers
Steve

No worries Steve ... ;)

If it makes you feel any better ... :suspect: ... I have just downloaded and installed 4.1 to double check and sure enough it makes not a jot of difference to the USM facility ... :D
