Hi Everyone

I'm Craig has you can see from my pretty straight up username, lol.

I am kind of new to photography, I say kind of new due to the fact I’m no stranger to a point and shoot digital camera.

I am about to purchase my first bit of major kit (DSLR) and I need some advise. I have a budget of £500 to spend and I want something I can really get my teeth into. I was leaning towards a Nikon D5000 but what do I know.

I like to shoot anything that takes my eye so the kit would have to be flexible and be able to build on as I would love to take my photography further in the near future. (That’s if I’m any good though)

Hi Craig :) Welcome to the forums.

Not everyone looks in this corner of the forum, so if you don't get too many useful answers you might find it worth opening a new thread in the 'Talk Equipment' section - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14 :)

Personally I would go for a Canon 400D or 450D but that is just because I prefer Canon for entry level cameras, but to be honest you will find that at that range there isn't a lot of difference between the leading brands. I would recommend getting your hands on a few models and see which feels the best to you.

Welcome Craig you will really find TP useful, Lots and lots of helpful people abound on this site. have a question.....you will always get an answer

Welcome to the forums Craig!

To answer your question, I would suggest a Canon 450D with the kit lens. It should be a great starter. And dont even think about buying a Nik** (automatic censore :P) Canons are the best and I have used a 450D before and can tell you, that it is a fantastic camera.
