Just wanted to say an offical hello to everyone.

I live in Nottingham and have just started to get into DLSR. I work at a print company in the repro dept(10 years), so I'm fairly used to dealing with firstly computers (Macs and PC's) all the usual stuff Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark......I also do a lot of scanning/retouching mainly National Trust stuff like the colour souvenier guide books. I've been doing this sort of thing (Trainnie Studio Artist/Graphic Designer) since I left school, seems an age now.

Cheers :thumb:

Welcome to a lovely place! I personaly wouldn't mentioned the PS skills, you have no idea how much we're gonna leech off you ;)

Hope you like it here!

Hi Glen, welcome aboard mate :)

Thanks for the warm welcomes :)....Steady on there with the photoshop skills, I might use it everyday but it doesn't mean I'm any good! (Jack-of-all-trades, Master of none.)

Judging by the techinical terminology flying around with everyone, I'm already sinking out of my depth on a few threads.:confused-

But if I can help at all I'll try me best.:innocent:

welcome!!

Hi Glen,

I have also just joined the site, strangely enough i do the exact same job (but in Aldershot, Hants), Started straight from school (15 years ago now) and have been doing it ever since. Graphic Design, DTP and Web Site Design, don't do as much scanning as we used to.

The main advantage is having access to all the latest packages like the CS2 package

regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

I know what you mean about the scanning bit, everything just comes on discs now and customers seem to have done it all themselves, although with this time of year as I said hopefully things are picking up Nat Trust on the scanning front.

What system you got at yours? we're on Creo(Kodak) Brisque V5, with Lotem CTP, Integris Epson 9600, Digital Cromalin, Apple Xserve 5.6TB and Macs runnning 10.3.9, brisque doesn't like anything else but this? and all the 'Old School Stuff'.

We are running 2 macs on 10.2.1 and one on 9.2 (ISDN only mac). 3 PC's one with XP and 2 with ME. The ME ones run the Epson and we have CIP3 for the presses linked to the other one.

We use a TaigaSpace system for imposition etc.
Screen CTP system.
Epson 10000 for proofing
We still have the Screen SG618 Drum Scanner, huge thing but very rarely gets turned on now. Also have a flatbed HP scanner which can Duplex scan.

Know what you mean about the size of drum scanners, we've got a linotype cromagraph 3300, about 10 yrs old now but still a cracking bit of kit.
