No
A few months ago I picked up a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm 1.4 lens from a charity shop for peanuts. I added a Cosina 24mm 2.8 from e-bay.

I used it once. It worked perfectly with no light leaks and both lenses are superb. The meter is shot though.

Anyway, I decided it's time to have a bit of a clearout and sell or give away stuff I don't use.

While taking pictures of it I realised it's in almost as new condition and I can't possibly let it go.

What is it with film cameras?

:D

Cunningly disguise ones you dont use as display items, call them 'ornaments' and place somewhere prominent in ones living space. Guilt free camera ownership

Yes - that's a good plan.

We're listening. Welcome to the group :D

Tea and coffee are on a table at the back along with the biscuits ;)

Thank you. It's nice to be understood.

Get some display cabinets:

Steve.

Started on the slippery slope, no going back now.:welcome:

chuck it down the stairs, mebbe you could let it go if it was less pristine, with a few dents in it...lol

I dunno, I can't keep anything I don't use, I am the clutter anti-Christ, I can't be doin with collected stuff....collected for collectings sake, got enough junk in our house wot with err record "collection", plate collection, pot dog herd, candle holding pebbly pot-pouree swarm..:/

eeuuggh, see thats exactly the kind of ornaments that I would be chucking down the stairs. We have a few very simple bits, pots and things, and thats it, even that cabinet only has the film cameras not currently in use, a couple of special toy cars you can see in the photo, and 5 chunky single items on shelves above. Like you, with most stuff I am very good at just getting rid of what I dont need, other than camera gear [and in fairness, thos 4 cameras, 2 were bought new by his father and the other two were given to me by an old friend who also bought them when new, so, no way am I getting rid  ] Sadly, hidden away in spare rooms we do have oodles of junk because he is a hoarder.

Actually, another good method is to lend out cameras you are not currently using to friends. That way, the true size of your collection is never precisely known... ;)

Fortunately, I don't have to justify anything to anyone - one of the advantages of being single.

You have given me an idea though. Perhaps it's time for another travelling camera adventure.

The Agfa Silette maybe.

The weird thing is, I agree with John. I'm not a collector and I don't like clutter.

Oh I dunno, I've seen a lot worse, I mean if we calculate a square footage of space taken up by camera gear, not including darkroom stuffs I've probably got at least that much gear.
Ain't never gonna pass joxxers use it or lose it by law since you have more cameras than fingers....its a slippery slope.

I'm also very guilty of this, bought a Full Black Canon Ae-1 from ebay last year, found out the shutter was stuck on it and it's sat on the shelf ever since! Looks good though :D

Well I don't know anybody (other than here) who wants to use a film camera :D

Have you put a battery in it? terminals corroded? If I have a camera that has a problem I can't solve it's broken down for spare screws etc.

Yep new battery and the light for the self timer works fine so if I remember right it's a sticky shutter. I did Google it at the time and did attempt taking some of it apart but it looked to be a lot of trouble getting to the part that needing oiling and freeing up.

Could be a very bad case of the Canon cough when the mirror damping mechanism has seized thus the mirror is not lifting....... to trigger off the shutter.

That rings a bell and sounds like what I'd read up I think. I seem to remember the viewfinder being pitch black permanently too, shame as its a nice camera.

Nooooooo.......

pot-pouree screw saucers all over the gaff

In future I'll post em off to you then and you can have a nice display of cameras not working :D

Wow, you've got quite a collection brewing there, @simon ess.

I'm not much of a collector at the moment, so I sell anything that's not being used. I've had a few cameras run through my hands briefly, but I always just return to my SQ-A, which simply has the right balance of features for me. Other than my SQ-A, I've got my Minolta Autocord as my 'small' camera and an SQ-B as a back up.

I'm compiling a decent selection of lenses and accessories for my Bronicas, however:

Drop of oil using a long needle solves the problem (how to do it on google)..but mine were still half working and am not sure if this would work if seized, and you oil the mechanism and move the mirror up and down by hand.

No EC ?

oh no, for crying out loud it seems this accumulation of kit to the point of having no living space is acceptable............it can't be, it just can't be :runaway: i,ve shifted a load of stuff and yet my pad is still piled out .......... Simons ( @ simon ess ) comment about being single and not having to justify crazy obsessive behaviour to others is helping me none! :D:D

Nope, I toyed with it for a few days, mostly because I wanted its 80mm f/2.4 lens, but I couldn't focus the camera (or the focusing was out, I'm not sure which), so I returned it. As I've said, I've experimented with other cameras, but I always end up back using my SQ-A. The SQ series is seriously underrated in my opinion.

Here is proof I do follow joxxers by law

in 2012 amongst other kit I had a Minolta 7000i and an F3........now gone
K well I got an F100 but apart from that in 3 years NO MORE ADDITIONS

Before making free with an oil can, have a look at this thread below. (My spare, rough looking, A1 had exactly the same problem about 3 years ago. I fixed it by reading this thread and paying particular attention to what Andrew K said on page 2)

http://www.apug.org/forums/forum52/78099-help-canon-ae-1p-winder-lever-stuck.html

I must admit that I was highly skeptical as to whether a wipe over with some lighter fluid on the magnet face would fix it, but it did and it's been OK ever since. All you have to remove is the bottom plate and snip that plastic shroud a bit to get access to the magnet face, there are no springs or other bits to fly out and lose. As it stands your camera is cocked and the shutter can be released by moving one of those levers as described by Andrew K.

Thanks both, i'll take a look and report back what I find here tomorrow

I sold quite a few cameras last autumn. Strangely enough the last roll taken on a Pentax MX, to use the film up before selling it, was the best ever in terms of the number of keepers, but I held my nerve.

I do have a display cabinet with some older cameras but now I have a clearer divide between the cameras for display (although I try to use them all once) and those I use "seriously" and I'm down to four cameras for regular use.
