Hello from North London!

I have been interested in photography for a long time but never had the chance to explore this interest. Thanks to a few things (including a very encouraging friend), I have purchased an old camera (Canon 2000D) and two used lenses (Tamron 24-70mm and macro 90mm) and started taking pictures. This was 4 months ago and now I am really into it! :)

I am watching and reading what I can on the subject and decided to join this forum to read about other people's experiences, look at others' pictures, ask for suggestions and, perhaps, show some of my photos for constructive criticism. I do not have (yet) a preferred genre and I am exploring different styles and approaches.

Lastly, I work full-time in a non-photography-related field and I am also studying part-time, so I can only dedicate to photography the very little spare time that remains, but I am trying to take some pictures every time I can.

That's all for now and thank you for reading about me!

Welcome to the forum and to photography. You'll find a lot to explore here, and lots of helpful people to answer any questions you have; just jump in and enjoy yourself.

Hi Crescenzo, welcome to the forum, I wish you well, enjoy :)

Hi Crescenzo, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy"

Welcome. I never did adopt a single genre but still enjoy photographing landscapes, portraits, sport, street, Architecture, still life, creative and others. Don't feel forced to specialise unless you wish to. The key thing is to enjoy photography and yes, it is one of those hobby's that can be fitted in with other demands.

Hello from an ex North londoner (I was born in Islington, last lived in Walthamstow, left in 1990)
I hope you enjoy this place, I've been a member for many years and still get a lot out of it. Hope you do too!

Hi!
Actually, I live in Islington (moved here about 7 years ago). :)

We lived in Ripplevale Grove, shared the house with an aunt back in the late 1950's. It was a cheap area back then, and there were a lot of Teddy Boys - mum used to make us cross the road whenever some were walking towards us. There was one house in the street that had a telly (mid '60's) and virtually no one had a car.
It's changed a bit since then. Wish we still owned the house - a beautiful double fronted place that'll be worth a fortune!

Hello from British Columbia, Canada, Crescenzo!

You're at the start of a deep, deep rabbit hole...and that's a good thing! :D

I can tell you that I shoot pretty much every genre (except studio work, but that's because I'm lazy), and love it all. If you're doing it for fun just go with whatever moves you at the time.

Take your camera with you as much as you can and shoot everything! You'll get better by shoot, shoot, shooting.

Oh! I know the place! It's on my bike route to work. It's a really nice area now, but there are no more Teddy Boys. Sorry! :)
I usually don't cycle with my camera, but I can try to take some decent pictures of the place one of these days, if you want.

That would be great - I've not been there for 40 years but seem to recall that Rowan Atkinson owned it at one point, so yes please, even a phone snap would be fab.
When I was about 4 my parents had the entire front rebuilt - ie all taken down leaving a plastic sheet for a door and tarpaulins for walls while it was rebuilt. Seemed so exciting but I guess it was a bit of a security worry, not that we had any money then (or now..)

Sure! I'm not going to the office soon for personal reasons, but I will definitely take some pictures next time. Do you remember the house number (although, it may have changed over time)?

Yup, number 6.
And thank you! I live in Cornwall so it's a bit of a long way from here...!
Hi Steve,
I haven't forgotten about my promise. Also, sorry for the long wait. A few things got in the way and for a while I didn't have the chance to stop and take some pictures (Not my best pictures, btw, I was in a hurry).

The Albion pub too, which according to what they say was already there in the 50s and 60s.

Fantastic, thank you so much for this! It looks so much like I remember but cleaner...
I'm going to have to take a look at some point, and your photos are a brilliant inspiration.
Thank you!
