Hello to everyone! My name is Alex and honestly, I'm properly excited to be on a photography forum! :D

I have 2 interests in life, cars and photography. The latter is my love of my life.

I'm recently 20 years old, from the South West of England. I shoot primarily with my Canon 500D. I like to put my own interpretation into photographs, an example being if someone asked me to take a picture of their house. I wouldn't just suffice with the norm, i'd make it MY photograph!

I'm entirely self taught in the medium of photography, I studied media in College and that gave me a love for artistic composition. It also allowed me to be very ambidextrous in relation to colours and photographic feel.

My work compromises of landscapes, something I'd like to call scenic portraits and model work. I take alot of pride in my work and I will never upload or submit something unless I am genuinely impressed or happy with it. I would also say that I'm VERY pedantic when it comes to my shoots. The shortest amount of time I've spent on a shoot was about 45 minutes and I had to heavily edit the shots I did have in order to make them somewhat acceptable. Ill happily upload a few of said shoot to give you an idea.

My kit!;
I have a Canon 500D body, with (a ****) 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 non IS lens and a nifty 50 f/1.8. When I say **** in regards to the standard lens, I've made do with it, but after experiencing a few other lenses, I'm very disappointed in it. I did get it as a bundle to an insanely cheap deal however, so it has let me get shooting atleast. Mated to the 500D body is a Phottix battery grip, BY FAR THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER BOUGHT EVER. I love it, verticle grip and shutter, short reach exposure adjustments. I love love love love love it!:love:
Both of my lenses have Phottix UV filters. Bought them cheap, nice glass. Almost zero circumstance in relation to my photographs, no haze. They do however bump up the flare from light sources quite drastically. This is however if I am shooting directly into a light source, but still.
In the camera, I have 2 Phottix LP-E5 batteries (in the grip obv) and I have a 4GB, Class 4 (:() SD card. Planning on experimenting with the video on my 500D soon so Ill need a new one. £12 Transcend 16GB Class 10 on the cards tyvm ;)

No need to mention to me about the video features on my camera, if you understand work arounds. Nothing is a problem in relation to exposure and aperture control. :D

I also have a Marumi DRF-14C ring flash, which I bought for the sheer reason of needing a flash and liking the ring effect it gave in studio work. However, this is by far my most least used bit of kit. I've done probably.. 50 exposures with it?! I'm a bit :bang: with it to be honest. I should of bought a standard flash.
Other bits of kit include various pieces of cleaning equipment, I maintain my DSLR like a saint, I've had it for under a year, done over 9000 exposures (lol) and it never ever missed a beat.

I am in the market for various bits of equipment at the moment, I had a tripod which was bought from a german supermarket a few years ago and up until a recent trip to cardiff it was great, until a black man wearing a mankini in Queen Street center came and stood on a leg, bent it and then it snapped upon a bodge repair. Mega fail. :(

I'm edit using Photoshop CS3 and lightroom 3.5 on a 20" iMac. The iMac is K.I.A at the moment with a hard drive failure, but I'm awaiting arrival of a 128GB SSD to fit to it to bring it back to a super fast flash memory behemoth. My iMac is also fully upgraded to 4GB of DDR2 800Mhz RAM.

Photos are stored away from a computer (Thank god) on a WD 160GB 2.5" external HDD. Fantastic bit of kit, never missed a beat, apart from a scary experience with a ****** HD cable and the drive nearly corrupted itself. Other than that, great drive. Would definitely recommend!

Lastly, I have a Crumpler Easy Weasy backpack. Absolutely love this too. It's comfortable, has great weight spreading capabilities as has more room in it than Susan Boyles belly. Holds everything I've listed above and more.

I think thats everything! Don't hesitate to ask me any questions, I do love answering any that I get! Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum!

I'm up for that! It would be nice to go up the Quantocks with a few people for some astronomy type photos! Perhaps near triscombe stone or similar! I'm always up for meeting new people too!

Unfortunately I fear as if your bag of lenses isn't as useful if you're on Sony's platform, unless you have some CF, EF or EF-S goodies ;)

my bag of lenses are useful to me though :lol::lol:

Les wil PM my contact number Alex

I gotta say, thank you so much for the warm welcome :)

I have the same lenses as you too, and you're right, the 18-55mm one is pretty poor, I never use it!

I know! Plastic mounts, an auto-focus motor thats louder than a yet and front element focusing! Total dissapointment! will be selling very soon for something more versatile, like an 18-135! :D
