Hi, my name's Simon, hailing from West Yorkshire. Not sure how long-winded to make this intro, so I thought I'd sorta go for it and splurge..
I've been lurking for a few weeks since discovering the TP site, created an account a few days ago and began posting in the last few hours. So I figured I should follow the forum's directions and introduce myself here!
I'm in my mid-40s now but started wandering in and out of photography in my teens, selling up when poor and buying in again when I got better off. With the advent of digital, I can now afford to stick with photography even through the harder times. More to the point, these days digital photography is one of the very few things I can afford to indulge in when I'm skint - a reversal of the photography paradigm, no less! Yay for digital!
Historically, my photographic interests are landscape, macro and abstract, but I've more recently landed a very photogenic partner-in-crime who's as keen to strike a pose as I am to get out me monopod (fnar!). So I've begun to venture (cheaply) into the strobist portraiture field and have purchased some budget softboxes, umbrellas, lightstands and 3 manual flashes (and a budget Neewer 180). Thanks to this new-to-me aspect of photography, I no longer fear the long winter months, and times are good.
I don't have a comprehensive portfolio of images, but do occasionally post a photo of the day/week/month at www.hopkinson.net. There's a link-thru to some more of my photos, bottom right.
Thanks for reading!
