Hello all, finally got myself a dslr, ive wanted one for around 8 years and within the last week or so i finally got my hand on one!

The only intention i have is to gain experience in this hobby so that i can take some fantastic shots!

I have a Nikon D40x with an 18-55mm lens which i paid a little under £200 for.

I have a tripod on order (be it rubbish) which before using have already nearly replaced with something decent haha!

Im following the 6 modules from the Practical photography magazine so hopefully ill gain some good skills from that which i can take further and expand on.

I was teaching myself how to use the aperture the other day and this is my first postable image, its nothing impressive but i really like it! So yeah, im hoping i can learn alot from this forum :)

Hello and welcome!!

Also from the west side of God's own county! You'll learn lots here. I did/am - I was completely new to this 3 years ago and have gone from hopeless to ok amateur! I get lots of fun out of it and hope you will too.

Good luck and post up some of your pics for help/advice/critique.

26, i live in denholme, Bradford. Although im often seen in Halifax so 25 is often used!

Seems to be a few friendly faces from this area, may have to arrange a leeds meet! I need to get going around with other photographers to get my skills up, plus i want to go out more anyway, im sat here now thinking "i should be out somewhere.."
