Found this forum a few mins ago (blessed be: google is your friend!), had a quick look and looks like it could be fun and informative, too :-)
Layout and sense of community is quite like Linux Ubuntu forums, another reason I think I'm going to like it here.
Camera-wise, (briefly!) I started with a Praktica MTL3, 1981-82ish, through Pentax ME Super; a wonderful camera I thought. Been through the wet-chemical stage, too. Break for about 20+yrs.
Nowadays, I have an Olympus e410 and a Mamiya C33, possibly a C330 soon. Basic (read:cheap) 3-head mains flash gear and a living-room that used to convert to a studio. Now it's a studio that converts to a living-room. Looking forward to getting the time to use it!
I love my dSLR but can't go cold turkey on my 6x6's yet.
Hard to say what I like to photograph, it varies. I suppose nature is tops. Not a great people-person though I'm trying to learn portraits.
Linux is a principal for me, not just cos I'm tight-fisted  So, no Photoshop, it's GIMP.
I live alone with my son. Anyone with a late-teenager/early 20's will know that's not necessarily a contradiction :-)
I work in security, so I'm incredibly time-limited for anything.
So, hi from Sunderland, I've prattled on enough for now.

Howdy, from someone who spent 3, cold, years in Sunderland at uni :) welcome to the forums.

Thanks, guys!
Jimmy, 3 yrs is long enough to endure our microclimate; I'm from here and still find it frustrating lol.

not the only "northerner" on here, i also live in sunderland so share the warm views of mackem land :D

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum. I could never get on with gimp, I always used paintdotnet before I got photoshop. You will have to share some photos of your living room studio. ;)

Yep, every time the weather forecast comes on (even a north-east one) they should add 'except Sunderland'

I suppose it's the only image editor I've used, being a Linux fascist for so long :-)
As for the studio/living room pics, I'm not sure I have a wide enough lens: compact and bijou would overstate it. I'm trying to reduce the amount of furniture to a minimum just above 'weird'!
