Hi all! I've just taken the plunge and ordered my first SLR, a Canon 450d, and thought I'd better have a look around I find out how to use it. I've got to say I'm amazed and a little overwhelmed by the incredible amount of information on here and I can't wait for the camera to arrive so I can get started.

By all means set it to auto and enjoy your new toy but once you have some spare time start using the 'grown up' modes and you will learn what does what much faster. Start off with Av and try the same shots at different apertures and think about shooting in RAW too.... lots to learn but it does get easier
