Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and relatively new to photography too.

I was gifted a Canon 400D camera last Christmas so for the past year I've been trying my hand at it. I think I've got some fairly good photographs but I clearly have a lot to learn and your forum seems like a friendly and informative place to come.

I like landscape and nature photography but I would also like to try getting into photographing the moon/milkyway/stars etc when I am good enough and when I have the right equipment.

My kit at the moment consists of the Canon 400D, a Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 II kit lens and also a Tamron AF 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR Di II lens.

Looking forward to joining in

Sarah

Hi Sarah & welcome. (from another Pendle resident)

Hi Carl, haha, its a small world. I've just been briefly looking through your Flickr photos (which are superb!!) and I'm guessing we're not a million miles away from each other :) I live in Earby!

Ha, 'kin Earby, I'm in sunny Barlick.

There are another 2 or 3 on here too, from Pendle. (y)

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I've got some great advice already. This is a wonderful forum!

Hi John, lol I was over your way this morning! Went up the side of the castle to see if I could take any decent shots! Can't say I've heard of any sightings or seen any Waxwings around here myself. Whereabouts did you go? :)

There were reports of some in the trees near jade palace but i didnt find any.
I also went to Burnley as some had been seen in park there but no luck again, it seems im chasing shadows at the moment :-(
Its nice up skipton woods, you can get some nice water photos from the small waterfalls and dam, and boats on the canal.
Personally i went up to sutton pinnacle for some landscapes and frosty ground shots.

Ah really? There are plenty of Goldfinch around in those trees at the moment but not seen any Waxwings. I'll keep a look out though as it's not far from me at all. I tried some shots up near the castle this am but cold hands and not enough layers got the better of me. No boats either today but I suppose the thick ice on the water kept them away. I'll try again when the school holidays are over. Any good up Sutton pinnacle? I've not been up there before.

Hi Sarah and a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)
Hi Andyred, thank you. I've definitely been made very welcome. Its a great forum!

John, there were some in Nelson a couple of days ago & a small flock @ Barrow nr Clitheroe & some @ Church nr Accrington yesterday.

The flocks seem small & sporadic atm. They also seem quite flighty & easily spooked too, reading a few reports.

Hi Sarah, you don't need to be Inspector Columbo to fathom where I'm from, more specifically in Trawden :welcome:

Re. Waxwings, the count in Barrow is up to 82, masses of berries still remain so you've a good chance of seeing them over the next few days if you make the short trip.

Hi Sarah, yes i got some decent frosty morning shots from the pinnacle.
You can climb up inside sutton pinnacle and get some good views from the high vantage point.
Parking is ok, you can park at the front of the pinnacle or take the road from cowling that goes round the back and park one field away, its easy walking and a good place for landscape/sunset shots.

Thanks for that John :) I'll certainly have to take a trip up there sometime. It sounds nice.
