Hello, I am retired and live with my wife - who is a keen gardener - within sight of the Severn Estuary in North Somerset.
Most of my pictures are of small things in our garden, or sunsets/cloudscapes from the nearby shoreline. I have not done any photography for six months or so but this site has revived my interest, so I have been picking through some of my backlog from last summer and I will post some of those images. I suspect I will soon be out in the garden taking pictures again.
My current camera is a Canon SX10IS bridge/superzoom, but I have been thinking for some time about getting a camera with a larger sensor. The Canon 60D looks like the most likely candidate but ... well, there are several "buts" so I am still dithering.
I use three close-up filters with the SX10 - going from most powerful to least powerful these are the Raynox 250, the Raynox 150 and the Canon 500D. I tend to use the 150 for insects and spiders and the 500D for flowers, buds, foliage etc.
I much prefer to use available light when possible, especially for plants, but I use an external flash a lot, especially for insects etc, either using a home-made diffuser or reflecting the light off of a white card.
I post process my images using Photoshop CS2. I use Autopano Pro to construct panoramas. I have used CombineZM for a few stacked macro images but I suspect I will be purchasing Zerene Stacker before too long.
Unfortunately I can't remember the names of things no matter how hard I try (been like it since I was a child). My wife helps with the names of plants but I am completely lost with insects, spiders etc.
