Hi there.

Been told this is a good place to come, so here I am. Just an amatuer photographer really, nothing special. Don't yet own a DSLR, looking to buy one very soon (next week) was going to go for the Nikon D40, but hoping there is maybe a better option someone might suggest??

Hope to chat more soon

:welcome: to TP ... all I would say about buying a camera is take someone with to keep control of the budget or it will be for just another £50 and just another £50 ...

Have a good play before you buy, think what you want the camera for, if it's not comfortable for you to hold and use then you will get annoyed with it.
Just a little rider to the budget thing if you will really get a feature you want for a little extra go for it otherwise you will think your cameras not really what you wanted.

If you can't find what you want walk away - you can always go another day.

Anyway have fun :)

Welcome Sallybear :)

I too am from the Wirral, Greasby to be precise.

If you need any advice on where to by locally send me a message and I will help you and point you toward some "better" and more trusted retailers.

Welcome SB!
Make sure you know what type of pics you plan to take and it would be sensible to take up Chris's kind offer.
Good luck and enjoy - a really helpful bunch on here

Thanks everyone for such a lovely warm welcome. Chris, will be in touch and take you up on that offer, thanks :-)

Hi Sally  and :welcome: to the forum

Hi, i'm from Merseyside too, on the Wirral, there seem to be a lot of us on here! I'd recommend trying the Canon EOS1000D, I bought one for my girlfriend and was also considering the D40. Try holding them both in a shop and see which one feels right!
