Hi All
My very first post on this site
I'm new to photography though did it as a kid back in the 70's with a 35mm Praktica B200.
Beginning of the year I bought one of the last Nikon D80's and a second hand Sigma 50-500mm, I'm not rich and assumed purchasing this kit would mean exceptional pictures, how wrong was I:shake:
I have been struggling every photo opportunity I get but trying to teach myself and preferring to play than read manuals mean I'm not very successful, I stumbled across this site researching Manfrotto 393 gimbal heads. Figured this'll help me take better pic's but I doubt it, does boost my confidence though
A typical day out for me is, well lets take last Sunday. Got up early and it was dull and overcast, struggled off to my local woods with the heaviest tripod you can carry knowing that the shutter speeds were going to be slow, setting up in some bushes and standing there for two hours camera aimed at a clearing with a little light, absolutely nothing in front of me when a group of birds landed in the tree directly overhead. I swung the camera round and upwards and got/seen my first ever Goldcrest, pictures were obviously rubbish as I'd focused on the bird with the sky behind resulting in silhouettes but hey, I saw my first Goldcrest
A little later in front of my camera a fox came strolling through and as I patiently waited for that shot it crashed down with rain, I had no choice but to get the carrier bag out of my pocket and get it on the camera quick, the fox thought, sod this and scarpered
I have been concentrating on bird pictures as I just love getting up in the morning and going out, you're never sure what you're going to see while out and hopefully one day my pic's will be good enough to put up on here [though judging by the quality on here, maybe not
].
Well that's a little bit about me, I can be found in Chatham, Kent and am the wrong side of 45 to be taking lousy pictures

Got to get back to the classifieds now, reckon more gear will sort it
Bye
Brian
