Hi everyone, I joined this forum as a Google search lead me here while I was looking for specialized advice about lighting. Places that discuss that sort of subject are few and far between.

Anyway, I hail from France and my specialty for the past few years has been what I call Heritage Photography, i.e., old stones, architecture, all things Mediæval and so on. Especially Romanesque churches, which are my chief area of expertise. Being retired, I work as a pro bono photographer for several non-profit institutions, foundations, and also public and private clients such as the Fondation du Patrimoine, the Centre des Musée Nationaux, the Ministries for Culture of France and Spain, and some private owners as well.

And by the way, I couldn’t help notice that this may be missing from the “Talk Genres” category: Heritage and Architecture? Well, if any admin feels like adding it... ;)

I’d say I’m a fairly experienced photographer, a Nikon user since the early 1970s (I was in high school back then) when I bought my first Nikon F secondhand. Always faithful to the brand, except for a brief stint with Fuji (X-Pro 1 and X-Pro 2) in the 2010s (I kept my Nikon gear in the safe anyway!).

And as regards my online name on this forum, well, some of you who are in my age bracket should be able to figure it out pretty easily...

Hi, And welcome aboard TP.

Welcome to TP............or the madhouse as some may call it ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum, enjoy :)

Welcome to the forum.

Which part of France are you living in now? There's a few members that are French residents, and others like me have maison secondaires. Our place is over near Autun, towards Beaune, in the Morvan.

We do have an architecture section, but pair it with urban.

Thanks Norkie and Toni !

Even though I am half-Breton and half-Scot, I was born and raised in Paris, then moved to the US to study and began working there out of law and business school, then back to Paris. Only for the last 20 years or so have I moved near the city of Lyon. As a lover of the Romanesque, I of course know Autun, the cathedral’s tympanum and the museum with the unforgettable statue of Eve!

I saw the Architecture Section, but it’s only in the Photo Sharing & Critique part. I was wondering if there would be enough interest to have a dedicated topic in the “Talk” part of the Main Discussion Forums (“Fora, surely?” would say Morse with raised highbrows) :)

Or else in the “Talk Genres” category.

I've only had the pleasure of Lyon for a brief period, when we stayed at St. Symphorien de Lay not far from Roanne. That was in 1997 I think, and although it was lovely then, it's likely to have lots of estates around the outside now, I guess. When we're on the drive down, there's a sense of relief that we don't have to do the extra couple of hundred km to get there.

The museum in autun has been shut for some time, and should eventually open in the old city jail. They plan a panoramic view point and all sorts of delights, and we're very much looking forward to it opening. I agree too, that the cathedral is delightful inside. We've only had the house since 2022 and have just 4 weeks per year there since acquisition. We've a lot of work to do, but give ourselves time in the area too.

As for an additional forum section, start a discussion or 3 and see how much traction you can gather. If there's a lot of interest then the forum owners might well consider an additional section.
