A big hello from Wickford in Essex.

I have been lurking for a few months so I thought it was about time to say hello. I have had a Nikon D40x for a while now and was getting fed up taking snaps in program mode, so I enrolled on a short course run by a local photographer and his enthusiasm has really rubbed off on me and I am now looking forward to take my photography more seriously.

Hi Neil,
Welcome aboard. There's a wealth of knowledge, experience and advice on here (along with the odd no hoper like myself !). I've been looking into taking a course or night school or something myself, just to try and drag me through the wall I seem to have hit recently. If you don't mind me asking, have you got any details of the course you took as it's not a million miles away from me........

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

Heres the link to the course.

They are held in South Woodham Ferrers, so just a short run up the A130 from Canvey.

I went on the Intermediate course and found it was pitched at just the right level for a newb like me. It lasted six weeks and each week covered a different aspect of photography, such as camera controls, composition, light (natural and artificial) and even the basics of lighting for portrait photography.

I will warn you though, Steve's enthusiasm is contagious.

Hi Neil and welcome to TP. Lots of peeps from Essex so you won't be alone. I have been looking at the link you posted for Dave and I am interested in taking a course as a refresher.

Hi Martin

I wish I had also done the Beginners course. It ran for the two weeks before the Intermediate course and most people on the Intermediate seemed to have done it too.
For me the evening on composition was worth the price of the course alone.

I am thinking of the intermediate one to start with. I started photography in the 70's until the middle 80's, so I have been out of it for many years, so I want a refresher just to jog my memory.

welcome, have a  on me

I've got me name down for next February's Intermediate....cheers Neil.

BTW Neil how many does Steve have in his groups?
