Hello,
not sure weather I should actually join this forum, as i haven't purchased my camera yet!
But need some advice! I'm new to photography, but would like to upgrade from the general point and shoot camera, to a decent SLR.
But really need some advice on what camera's are the best to buy, bearing in mind i have a budget!
I'm mostly interested in sporting photography, but enjoy a bit of everything.
So some help with that, and some friends, would be really appreciated!
hahaa, thanks!
Nicky :)

Hi Nicky
Welcome to TP

this is a big question.... it would depend on what your budget is..both Canon and Nikon have fine entry level DSLRs...look around the forum there are lots of well experienced photographers here who can give you lots of advice and guidance...

Hi Nicky

Of course you should have joined! Theres a wealth of information on the forum for people in your position. Though you don't mention which sport(s), or your budget... which could be a bit off putting if people say you must have bits of kit that are way over your budget. Have a good read and brows the galeries for some inspiration. Then ask some questions if you need some specific guidance or pointers.

Neil.

 Hi and :welcome: to Talk Photography

There's a wealth of information on here, have a good old browse around ;)

hey,
cheers guys!
The sport i would most be interested in photographing would be football. Would be great to get some good shots of my football team too!
And my budget ranges from about £300 - £400. Please say that's enough to get an amatuer SLR!
My friend recomended getting it second hand, so i could get more for my money. Still contemplating this idea!
Again, i am a total n00b to the photography world, please bare with me
also, can i just say, some of the pictures on this forum are fantastic!
Nicky :D

It would be worth posting your question in the Talk Equipment forum to get some more replies Nicky. You could definitely pick up a second hand entry level DSLR within your budget, but you need to consider your lens choice too. For sports photography you're going to need something with good reach :)

I say go to a shop and play with a canon 450 and nikon d60 and the others

then come on here and buy something similar secondhand

I'd also recommend a 30d or equivalent as they are a bit chunkier than entry level bodies

Hi  and :welcome: to TP.

Thanks for all the welcomes and all!
I have finally purchased my SLR, and I went for a Canon 10D with 75-300mm lens, and I'm borrowing a 28-135mm macro lens until I get my Tamron Macro in February. I have heard the 10D is great camera and I'm still learning to use it!
I look forward to using this forum more.
:D
