Hello folks!
I've been lurking for a few weeks now and finally gotten around to signing up so I can start bothering you all with inane photography questions and plenty of horrific examples of what not to do. You may have guessed I am a complete beginner when it comes to anything other than the 'casual phone snapshot' type of photography. I bought my first DSLR at the beginning of August a day before going on holiday after my lads Lumix LX3 died as we were packing. I also grabbed a copy of 'The Beginners Photography Guide' from the local bookstore which seems like a pretty good book to get up and running. I am not a creative/arty person by nature and have no illusions of ever being so, but hopefully I will learn to make the most of my camera and do it some justice and find some inspiration amongst you all. Our holiday, three weeks touring around France, presented plenty of photo opportunities and I was pleased with the results. Probably the only real mistake I made was not shooting in RAW. Lesson learnt and having subscribed to Lightroom CC it's amazing what that software can do even with a JPEG. I have also signed up to a ten week 'Recreational Photography' course at the local college which will hopefully prove more than useful. In particular, I'm looking forward to the weekly photo assignments. I've watched a lot of Youtube videos and read a lot on the forum, and am now suffering from a bit of 'information overload' and really need to start to try and put it into practice.
I put some photos onto Flickr for your amusement, but have had to be a little creative with including a link to avoid the spam filter since I'm so new.
