Just a quick note to say hello to everyone, I'm Ian and I have been using DLSR camaras for a few years, but now I want to improve my knowledge of photography and editing.
I was introduced to TP by a stranger whilst walking along the River Dee in Chester recently with my wife, I believe the gentleman was from Conwy and he had a Nikon D300 he suggested I visit TP. I would like to thank him for the advice I think TP is excellent and I am looking forward to sharing and learning. :thumbs:

Many Thanks for your warm welcomes.

I have just upgraded from the D70 to D700, having fun practicing, looking to take my photography to the next level. I'm enjoying my Bird photography, struggling a bit with the landscapes (composition), never done anything in the way of portraits.

I will be posting some photo's shortly for c&c. :eek:

Where do you go for your bird photography? I've been to the reserve at Burton but not anywhere else locally. Would be interested to read about your setup also.

I go to the RSPB centre at Conwy, Dee Estuary down as far to Talacre.

But I would like to travel a little bit further and explore other nature reserves.

Setup, Nikon D700, Nikon D70, Sigma 170-500 5-6.3 APO, Kenko pro 1.4x, Nikkor 70-300 4-5.6, Nikkor 24-70 f2.8.

Thanks Ian, nice set up there, would love a 24-70 at some point and I imagine the 170-500 performs fairly well in good light?

24-70 Fantastic lens, 170-500 is a heavy beast yes you are right you do need good light also I feel I need to use it in manual.

You mentioned a reserve, Burton is that the one at Neston, I've not been there.

Good time to get here at the moment, with the high spring tides there are a lot out there.

Up at Thurstaston there are a pair of lil owls that it is hoped will breed this year.
 
Hmm not sure as I think it's Burton rather than Neston... here's the location details...

O.S. Map Reference SJ290750
On the A540 towards Neston, turn left to Burton. Beyond the village, a left fork, Station Road, goes down to the Dee Marshes. For access to Inner Marsh Farm, take a left turn down an un-tarmaced road signposted for Burton Point Farm.

Thanks Darren for the directions, weather permitting on Sunday I will try and find my way there, for a few hours.

Tina, thanks for the info, if I get to Thurstaston I will keep an eye out for them.
 
No problem, I've only ever been to Burton so I can't compare it to anywhere else for size, etc. There's one timber hide which will hold maybe 8-10 people.

I think it's £3. And there's a 5-10 minute walk from the car park to the hide.
 
Thanks I will check it out tomorrow I think the weather man says sunny.

I know I have seen somewhere what size the photo should be to post it for
C&C, but can't remember where I have seen it. :help: Can you help me?

Hi Ian welcome to TP

The size for your images is 800px on the longest side. You get a little more for a pano but I'm sure you will find that if and when you need it :thumbs:
