Hey there guys,
My name is Ryan and I am the very definition of the term 'amateur photographer'. Infact, you could almost go as far to say I'm below amateur.
I'm going to be honest with you, up until about 6 years ago, I had no interest in photography whatsoever. The only pictures I had ever taken were either on a digital camera or on my phone. This changed however, with one trip to Silverstone for a race weekend with my dad in 2013.
We both rocked up there with our cheap little digital cameras to take pictures of the cars and some of the scenery. Much to my shock, I saw people turning up with these really expensive cameras and lenses the size of a tree. And I even saw people turning up with 2 or 3 cameras all with different lenses on them. You can imagine, me and my old man felt like a pair of plumbs. This is where my interest in photography sparked.
Cut to 2 years ago, me and my best mate were planning a trip to Silverstone for his birthday weekend. This was when I decided to buy myself my first 'proper' camera. I spoke to a couple of people I know who had cameras and did some research on 'best beginner cameras', 'cameras that take the best pictures' (I know, comical, right?).
I eventually bought myself a Canon 1300D. I was like a kid in a sweet shop when it arrived. I thought I was going to be the best thing since sliced bread. I mean, how hard could it be? You point the camera at what you want to take a picture of and press a button. Oh boy, how wrong was I? Nobody told me about shutter speeds, ambient lighting, camera settings or even manual and auto focus.
I quickly found out that the lens the camera came with was not going to cut the mustard at Silveretone and that there was so much more to photography than just point and shoot. I needed something with slightly more zoom. Alas, I bought my first ever lens. A Canon EF 75-300mm f4-5.6. I'm still using this lens to this day. Infact as I write this, I'm not long home from Silverstone where I have used it. I'm hoping to post some pictures I've taken of the weekend to try and get your guys feedback on how to improve.
So that's pretty much me and photography. I love motorsport and things that go fast and make load noises. I get by with the very limited knowledge I have with my very basic kit. I'm here really to try and learn some new things, see how you more experienced guys do things and maybe, just maybe get myself out of this below amateur bracket I am in.
Anyway, I think I've bored you all enough now. Thanks for having me here, and I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better!
