Have been retired nearly 9 years now after a career in the semiconductor industry. Have been active on and off in photography for around 55 years! Remember at the age of 15 building a very crude enlarger and trying to make prints in the cupboard under the stairs. Eventually, many years later, had a Kaiser colour enlarger and processing drum which revolved in a water bath. It would take a whole evening to produce one print. Life is much easier with Photoshop but miss the smells.

First 35mm camera Voigtlander CL. Subsequently graduated to Pentax Spotmatic F and then Program A both of which I still have. I was a late adopter of digital photography, I was sceptical that it could match the IQ of my Pentax. However, having taken the plunge 3 years ago I am totally converted.

My previous digital was an Olympus SP550. Despite its well known shortcomings i.e. focussing difficulty at high focal lengths in poor light and noise at high ISO I was pretty pleased with it as an alround carry camera. The noise problem was never an issue with me as I do not tend to shoot fast moving (they are mostly stationary) subjects and the IS is magic! I have produced good quality prints up to 16"x12".

In March this year I entered the brave new world of the DSLR with an Olympus E-520. The physical size, IS and quality of optics were the deciding factors.

Have only just discovered this forum.

Welcome, Adagio. Like you, I'm a relative newcomer to DSLRs but I've been dabbling in photography for a few decades.

TP is full of very helpful people, you will find it extremely useful.

 Welcome to TP look forward to seeing some of your shots

Hi  and :welcome: to TP.

I am pretty sure we will all benefit much from your contributions here; I, for one, will be very keen to hear your stories. Been into photography 30 years, on and off, this past July, though I still consider myself as a noob.

As for the smell, you can get a few chemicals and keep them in a jar next to your monitor, just for "old times' sake"; though, I am not too sure it's good for your health :p
