Just a quickly to introduce myself (ive posted more specifically in the basics forum)

Ok so im a self confessed newbie, with very, very little knowledge either technical or otherwise on the subject of photography, but i want to and have the time to now learn.... we have just recently moved to the scenically spectacular area of Lochaber in Highland Scotland which by all accounts is a mass of oppurtunity being that i am now able to do little else i am hoping to through this forum source information that will lead me to picking the right camera for my capabilities, budget and ability (if that possible) we right in front of our semi picturesque cottage have the end of the legendary River Morar where my puppy is walked down its foreshore daily that alone when im able to go alone provides different and varied choices each and everyday let alone the local area north to the fishing town of Maillaig or south to Fort William, Glencoe and beyond all with-in reach i truly hope i can relight an deep down sort of previous interest.

I have untill now been making use of my Blackberry Pearls inbuilt camera which although semi limited have shown dramatic results but i have lost more shots than i have got due mostly to its limitations and slow responce hence i would much prefer to have a real preset auto camera around my neck for that shot that i always miss of our puppy doing puppy things, or the bird hovvering etc, with any luck someone will be able to advise me.

Lastly i'm known to my friends as Dougie as i say hailing from Lochaber in Highland Scotland but originally from Glasgow looking forward to learning from your membership all i need to in order to at least partially acheive my goals.

Welcome to TP, Dougie.
Given the area in which you now reside it would be an enormous opportunity lost if you did not indulge in photography.
Research your choice of camera well. Landscape, puppy wildlife seem to be on your agenda therefore at some point you will most likely want a DSLR. You may want to start off with an auto point and shoot, but if the photography bug bites you'll eventually likely want a DSLR.

Have a good look through the forum and ask questions at will no matter how basic. Plenty of assistance is freely available.

Dougie - gosh its as if im talking to myself here! as for your comments undoubtable your most probably right if i can overcome my issues that would otherwise hinder me i am not in any way a quitter having fought this godam cruel desease every step of the way for in excess of 20 yrs sadly now having to face up to a loosing battle, i feel that not only would it be a shame if i could not make use of our residency here if for no other reason than too share with others the joyious sights we see everyday! my fear is spending several 100's on equipment i cant make use of (the abandoned under the bed, boxed unused new Sony DV handycam laying testement to that school of though on previous occasions only not
quite so financially able to buy on a whim now) so hence my questions and fears.

It seems that the chain of thought is running towards a bridge camera much like the Nikon i mentioned earlier or possibly the Canon someome else mentioned but my observation is thus away from the big names and manufacturers is any of the cheaper budget bridge cameras worth considering and if so what/which (i think it was a GE or GEE i noticed also in Argos that like for like in specs were quite close to the Nikon L120 i was initially looking at but at full retail around the £120 mark that the Nikon was halfpriced at so what i really want to know is are they seriously cheap and nasty or are Nikon Canon and such just overpriced i am btw no snob i will buy a known make if i can afford to but have no brand loyality or allegiance at this point anyway..

Again any help, guidance and such like much appriciated

ps - im going to attempt to unload some of my Blackberry shots tommorow when i can get on my desktop as via this confounded tablet is no easy task, i do beleive some may be in many ways quite shocked at the quality .... (for what they were taken with anyway)

For now many thanks again for your patience and help make no mistake its appriciated no end

Hi guys ill keep this brief after being insulted and more on another photography forum for having to long a post ? (i would of thought as i did by giving as much info as possible regarding the topic of the thread should in reality bring the best results...

Ok im new to photography other than the usual simple family type cameras so i know very, very little but due to a recent house move to a spectacular area of senic Scotland i have had my interest buds wiggled and i would like to know more and most importantly in my situation what (without spending fortunes i hope would suit me best) i have an MS type muscle wasting desease, i have eyesight and walking difficulties and more so the type and useage of any new devise is imperative what i envisage is a piece of equipment that can with at least passable images handle landscapes close/far, portraits and the usual family related day to day stuff, but possibly more importantly due to having not a lot of feeling in my hands i need something that essentially can run set and fix/sort its own settings to ensure light/dark, flash/not etc that is not to heavy so i can wear it around my neck sitting on standby ready to use at a moments notice maybe that doesnt eat batteries would be good, am i asking to much or does this devise exist or close to it and if so where and how much?

I would love to hear from anyone who can offer any advice or personal recomendation i will of course respond to all replies.

Many thanks for your time...
