hello from a newbie

Hi,
not sure whether I'm in the right place or not - I'm a bit of a 'happy snapper' with a digital compact camera, but I love images and want to learn how to make mine better.
I live in a really photogenic area, and really want to make the most of the pics I take - mine seem to lack 'soul' if you know what I mean.
When I get the hang of putting pics on here, maybe people will give me some hints and tips - fingers crossed!
