Hello from a newbie to photography

So I've recently taken up photography as a hobby, despite having an interest in it for a few years. As I'm a student I'm working on a very tight budget, but slowly building up my equipment.

I'm working with a Sony A390, with the standard 18-55mm lens and a Tokina 70-200 which was made for a Konica Minolta camera.

So far I seem to be struggling with getting the exposure perfect more than anything, but here are a few of my shots; I'd appreciate people's thoughts comments on them.
