Hello from a Forum Newbie and Photagraphy Novice

Im Dave, 39, Undertall for my weight, advancing forehead and a new passion for photography.

I have always appreciated good photography (and art in general) but admit to knowing nothing. This xmas i thought it was time to give it a go and having some spare cash for a change bought my first ever decent camera, Canon ES450D, following some research and advice. Granted its an entry level piece of kit but i couldnt justify spending much more to start with.

So im here to pick up some tips and hopefully learn about the technical side of photography. Please forgive my ignorance, which im sure you will and be patient. Sometimes it takes some time to sink in.

lotsa good photo opportunities in Richmond - I visit a Canadian friend there annually when she visits family

never got a good camera till now so waiting to visit again - river, town-square etc etc

Harrowgate is quite good too I believe ?

Its certainly nice around here and the river/falls are quite spectacular, with miles and miles of the North Yorkshire Moors on our doorstep, but im used to that and really should look at it from a photographers angle.
