Hi there, im new to this stuff, but always had an interest in it, so thought i'd fire on after speaking to a mate who is on here, dont ask me his username though i couldnt tell u for the life of me:bonk:

Im Neil, 22, from fife.

My main photography will be automotive, although i'll be covering some other bits and pieces throughout time as well to see what i can do, it all should help me learn.

im just starting out, so be gentle:wave:

speak to you all on here hopefully at some point!

ask away......................:D

thanks for the welcome folks... ive taken a couple shots on an old Fujifilm S5700 i borrowed for a drag strip event up here... no editing on them as im still learning.

Im going to be doing the full time NQ course at college for Photography, with the intent of sitting my HNC/D's after this. my main aim would be to keep contributing mainly as a writer for the magazine im currently doing, but also have some shots put into it as well in the future.

im going to be purchasing a Canon 400D this week, only has the 18-55mm lens just now and a lens hood... what recommendations do you have for me for to use regarding both static and moving automotive shots?

The entry-level 18-55 is best when stopped down a little. For both moving and static I'd go with f/8. Adjust ISO to get slow shutter speeds for moving vehicles and pan with them to give realistic blur to the background.

cheers phil, most of the camera's ive seen are coming with 18-55's anyways, ive had a fair bit of practice video recording some short track oval racing and track day racing with panning with vehicles etc... just all takes time i guess to get there eventually...

have stuck a couple pics up that i took last weekend in the transport section if u fancy a look and see how the basics are on them for me?

update phil - just bought a Canon 1000D, should have it by monday/tuesday hopefully... so will practice a few shots on the day i recieve it, hopefully be a bit more active on the site with this new camera :D

To be honest my speciality is Portraiture so I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment on motorsport!
