Hi there. My name's Rob and thought I'd say hello.

Like many others, I've been lurking a while but decided to join in today.

I'm a recent newcomer to this filthy habit we know as photography :D
20 years ago I had a Minolta SLR and frankly I had no idea how to use it.

Then in 2006 I bought a Samsung 6MP P&S. I still have it. But by 2009 I'd bought a Pany FZ28 as my new son was going to be born.

I really like this camera as it taught me about M,A,S & P modes, as well as its auto options. It's a terrific holiday camera, but for indoors and kids etc you have to resort to the onboard flash and it's not really that pleasing and after about 200 ISO, it's not really usable.

So last year having digested (I think) a variey of Bryan Peterson's books and some Scott Kelby ones too, I thought about DSLRS more and more.

So I was thinking Canon 550D, or maybe the Nikon D90?

Then I handled a 7D in a shop and it felt great. Loved the view finder too, although compared to the FZ28 anything is an improvement there I guess.

As I understand from various forums and speaking to quite a few Wedding photogs (due to my unrelated job) good/great photography is more about the light, then glass, then the photographer and then the body...

I still haven't bought the body but I did recently get a Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip ball head which works well together, so I need to get body, perhaps a 30mm sigma 1.4mm, Canon 85mm f1.8 and then in time, I'll see about a zoom for walkabout purposes later on, oh blimey and a flash.

So there we have it. Possibly the dullest introduction in recent times, but I look forward to reading some more threads and no doubt asking for some help in due course.

Cheers
Rob.

Welcome to the forum Rob. :)

Welcome, I started with a 350D 4 years ago, 10 cameras later I'm in the process of getting a 1Dmk4, Will it ever end?

Welcome :)
You're after the same body as me then .... if you see what I mean

I have a neighbour who has 9 or 10 Nikon cameras in his office, including underwater as he's a scuba diver. He never sells them, just sticks em in a cabinet.
