Glad to find this site as opposed to canon digital forum p.o.t.n...
Nothing wrong with that site i've had many a good hour with the participants,
But,
This is UK based...
SO my neccessity for UK based....

I DROPPED MY 40D !!!!!
Don't ask 'how? butterfingers, slowmotion moment....
onto concrete garage floor, no visible signs but
THE DREADED ERR99 display on boot-up,,
No lens issues all lenses function on my 30D

So, Un warrantied, Anyone have experience of the cost of sending it to Canon for analysis/repair....

thanks alot...

Pete.

Hey Pete :)

Welcome to TP. You are going to LOVE it here!

I had the ERR99 with my 5D Mk1. I sent it to Canon Elstree and it was a superb service I received. Took a week and a half and had its motherboard replaced. Got good tracking of progress throughout and got a clean included.

Send it off to them asap with a covering letter and they will get back to you via email and post with an estimate. I got estimates from other repair places too, but they were all about the same, and I plucked for Canon Elstree as I felt they had more chance of having parts in stock/available and are highly regarded.

Let us know how you get on and I look forward to seeing some of your shots :)

welcome tex..:D
sorry to hear about the accident but it looks like you have a 'fix'
cheers
geof

would anybody be as bold to guestimate the size of hole in my pocket after all of this?
Cheers.

I am afraid we can't say matey - it entirely depends on the orientation when it landed. It could be as simple as replacement pin contacts right through to total write-off.
Get it sent of for an estimate and cross the cost bridge when you have an idea of how much - you can always claim on your house insurance if it is covered?

Hi and welcome to TP..:)
